OAKHURST – Yosemite High School’s Badger swim and dive teams went up against 5 other teams in the North Sequoia League Meet last Friday, May 9th. Coach Brandon Brokaw said, “Our kids swam really well and did everything that they could to win the meet.”

OAKHURST – Parents and guardians of Yosemite High School (YHS) International Baccalaureate (IB) and Honors students are asked to attend an International Baccalaureate Parent Organization (IBPO) meeting this evening, Monday, May 12 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will take place in Sr. Steve Browning’s classroom, room 1504 of Ansel Adams building.

OAKHURST – Hungry for breakfast? Come out tomorrow Saturday, May 10, from 7 a.m. to noon for a Pancake Breakfast at the Oakhurst Community Center. The event is sponsored by Sierra Oakhurst Kiwanis, with all proceeds going to Yosemite High School’s Sober Grad.

OAKHURST – The Yosemite High School Theater will be rocking and rolling this Friday, May 9, from 7 – 9 p.m. Music will be performed by YHS students Eddie Nixon and Jordan Lawrence, along with supporting musicians Thomas Lazar and Ben Hartesveldt. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults.

OAKHURST – Yosemite Badgers Youth Football players, parents and coaches are trying something new this year and they’re thinking it will be really, really hot. The community is invited to join the Badgers for their “1st Annual Chili Cook-Off,” slated for Saturday, May 17 at the Oakhurst Community Center.

OAKHURST – Thanks in part to a substantial grant, Cornerstone Family Counseling is currently offering a series of free parenting workshops at local elementary schools. Help with parenting skills, along with information surrounding the prevention of tobacco, drug and alcohol abuse, are being offered at Spring Valley, Wasuma, Rivergold, Raymond and Coarsegold Elementary schools.

OAKHURST – Tin roof, rusted? They’ll take it, and any other items you have to donate for the Community Recycling Event taking place at Yosemite High School this Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The opportunity for some serious spring cleaning benefits the YHS Band, and is the senior project of soon-to-be-graduating student Devin Horton.

FISH CAMP – For the second year in a row, students of the Bass Lake Unified School District got the chance to attend a special field science camp at the Jack L. Boyd outdoor school, Camp Green Meadows. The weather was chilly in late March, but hearts were warmed by the new alliances formed between kids, educators, and mother Earth.

OAKHURST – The Oakhurst College Campus is holding a Community Unity event on Thursday, May 8, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., bringing area vendors, service groups and local colleges together to celebrate with free food, music, workshops, games, and prizes.
