OAKHURST – Soroptimist International of the Sierras invites mountain area women to the Annual Fall Soup & Salad Luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Community Center in Oakhurst.
Lunch includes soups, salads, dessert and beverages, and take-out is available. An early bird raffle at 12:15 p.m. and another drawing at 1 p.m. feature prizes including a Family Fun Pack for Pier 39 in San Francisco, with bay cruise, carousel, aquarium and more. Other raffle items are Panera bakery “Bread for a Year,” an outdoor fire bowl, and $100 cash.Members are selling tickets to the fundraising event for $10 each and tickets can also be purchased at Giftworks, located at 49027 Road 426.
Proceeds from the luncheon benefit Soroptimist projects. Recently the group funded high school scholarships and supported both the Academic Decathlon and 8th Grade achievement awards. They also continue to offer the Women’s Opportunity Award, a grant for furthering education, and the Violet Richardson Award, given to a girl between the ages of 14-17 for her outstanding volunteer efforts.
The Sierra chapter of Soroptimists International was established in Oakhurst in 1968. They remain dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in locally and throughout the world. They meet twice a month, on Thursday, for luncheon meetings at the Ol’ Kettle Restaurant.
