A+ Parent Night At YHS

OAKHURST – The class of 2019 got familiar with Yosemite High School (YHS) a few weeks ago, and on Monday night their parents had a turn, going through an orientation of their own.

Starting off with a general meeting, the parents were introduced to YHS, as it’s as new to most of them as it is for their kids. Parents share a lot of the same apprehension that the students have about starting high school.

After an overview, Yosemite’s ASB members led them around campus, giving them a tour while teaching them about the five major aspects of the school: Academics, IB, Athletics, ROP, and Student Life.

The parents got to choose which three of those aspects they were most interested in, and the ASB members filled them in on all they need to know.

The night put some worries to rest for the parents, just as the orientation did for the students, and as the soon-to-be freshmen’s folks learn more about the school they can help their children adjust to its rhythms and rigors, which is one of the main goals of the orientation.

Jamie Longmore is a senior at YHS and intern with SNO.
