Structure Fire On Ashworth Road In Bootjack Area

MARIPOSA COUNTY – As firefighters work to bring the Detwiler Fire under control, another fire has been reported in the Bootjack area on Ashworth Road near Grist Road.

The fire was reported at 6:10 p.m., and Air Attack diverted from the Detwiler Fire to have a look.

At 6:15 p.m., the pilot reported the fire at 1-1/2 acres with one building fully engulfed, another immediately threatened and a third completely surrounded by fire.

Ten engines, two ground crews and two dozers were dispatched, and a helicopter from the Detwiler Fire was requested.

The first unit at scene reported the fire now at 3-4 acres, backing down to the north.

A sheriff’s deputy was immediately on scene to assist an elderly woman in a nearby house.

As engines arrive at scene, they are being directed to take up structure defense on buildings in the path of the fire, and to make sure the fire does not cross Ashworth Road.

By 6:37 p.m., firefighters had the hose lay tied in around the entire perimeter, and the fire was contained.

The incident commander estimates about three hours for full control.

We will update this story as it develops.
