String Of Fires Closes Highway 41

MADERA COUNTY – Five separate fires along Highway 41 between Road 406 and Road 208 closed the road in both directions for several hours today.

At 1:41 p.m., the first report came in of a fire just south of Road 200, but as firefighters arrived they discovered several others farther south from that location.

Two of the fires were reported as 20×50 ft. spot fires, and one was estimated at 1/8 acre, burning in annual grass and brush. Another fire grew to about two acres before crews got a line around it.

Highway 41 was closed at Road 200 southbound and at Road 208 northbound due to smoke across the roadway, fire equipment in the lanes, and protection of the points of ignition.

All five fires were quickly suppressed by Cal Fire and Madera County firefighters, but the road remained closed during mopup. As of 4:45 p.m., both lanes have been reopened.

  1. Why aren’t we hearing any containment updates on the Meadow Fire? Isn’t it still burning??
