OAKHURST — Soroptimist International of the Sierras is inviting all women to a free seminar entitled “Retirement Road Map for Women.”
The event is scheduled to last about 90 minutes and will be held at Oakhurst Community College on Monday, Apr. 15 at 6 p.m.The talk will be led by Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Shawna Petrushkin of Ameriprise Financial. Featured topics will include savings, benefits, and estate planning for those both near and far from retirement.
“It’s really for women of all ages,” says Petrushkin. “Information starting with ‘how much should I put towards retirement’ to ‘what are my Social Security benefits going to look like.’ We’ll offer a wide range of information for both married and unmarried women.” Spouses are welcome, too.
Petrushkin emphasizes the importance of financial knowledge for women, stating, “Women tend to save less toward retirement. We have family expenses, may work part-time outside the home, or are not in the paid workforce at all. We have children and parents to take care of. Women need to look into their own retirement and learn what they can do to save toward that.”
Soroptimists International of the Sierras offers the free seminar as a service to women in the area. Chartered in 1968, the Oakhurst-based club supports all Soroptimist projects and awards, and is involved in all aspects of the mountain community.
