Slide Prompts One-Lane Traffic Control On Hwy. 49 North

MARIPOSA — Highway 49 North (SR-49) is subject to one-lane traffic control near the Bagby Recreation Area for the foreseeable future, as crews work to clear the roadway and keep it safe in the aftermath of a slide.

“CalTrans is continuing to work on SR-49 near the Bagby Recreation Area,” says Mariposa CHP. “Roadway repairs and debris removal are projected for several weeks. This will take place during daylight hours and will require one lane of traffic to be closed while the work is ongoing.”

Additional slides were reported on SR-49 near Bear Valley Road, according to CHP. On Mar. 2, the highway north of Bear Valley was closed overnight and for part of the next morning, while crews made repairs and cleaned up slide material.

Please use extra caution if you are driving this route. If this is your drive, give yourself a few extra minutes. As always, slow for the cone zone and please watch for Caltrans crews and equipment.
