Sky Fire Update Sunday 9 AM

OAKHURST – The Sky Fire, burning north of Oakhurst on Road 632 (Sky Ranch Road), is now 40 percent contained, and still holding at 500 acres.

Today crews will continue reinforcing containment lines, extinguishing hot spots on the fire perimeter, and working on fire line suppression repair work.

Sky Ranch Road remains closed as fire crews work on removing hazard trees, and due to fire equipment along the road. All roads leading into the fire area also remain closed.

Firefighting resources, such as engines and crews, will begin to be released from the Sky Fire and sent to other fires in California. The public is reminded to be cautious on the roads as a lot of firefighting equipment will be going to and from the fire area.

The American Red Cross has set up the following evacuation centers in Oakhurst:

Sierra Presbyterian Church, 39696 Highway 41 in Oakhurst
Oakhurst EV Church, 50443 School Rd in Oakhurst

The following campgrounds remained closed:

-Camp Redwood -Soquel Campground -Nelder Grove Campground -Grays Mountain -Chilkoot Campground

The Incident Command Post for the Sky Fire is located at the Old Mill Site on Road 225 in North Fork.

The Sky Fire started on Thursday, June 18, at 2 p.m., when a truck pulling a trailer on Road 632 caught fire and ignited surrounding vegetation.
