O’NEALS – A sleepy driver behind the wheel was the apparent cause of an accident on Road 200 near Butterfield Stage Road this morning.
Just after 7:30 this morning, Dante Fabris, 20, of North Fork, was eastbound on Road 200 just past the Ponderosa Telephone offices at a stated speed of 60 mph when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.
The 2013 Mitsubishi he was driving crossed over the westbound lanes, went through a barbed wire fence, hit some rocks and went airborne for about 90 feet, overturning and coming to rest on its wheels in a field, according to CHP.
The driver was uninjured in the crash, but the car appears to be a total loss.
The landowners immediately came out to repair the fence to prevent livestock from escaping, and Techniques Towing arrived to retrieve the car.
No other vehicles were involved, and no other occupants were in the car.
