Single Vehicle Rollover Near Road 600

OAKHURST – A single vehicle accident on Highway 49 just south of Road 600 closed the northbound lane for abut 40 minutes yesterday morning.

On Wednesday, Apr. 30, a 19-year-old Coarsegold man was northbound on Highway 49 when, for unknown reasons, he allowed his 1987 Nissan pickup to drift off the right shoulder of the road, striking a large oak tree, according to CHP.

The tree demolished the passenger side of the vehicle, which rolled onto its left side, coming to rest in the northbound lane.

The driver suffered some cuts and abrasions to his left arm, which was propped in the window at the time of the crash. He was transported by Sierra Ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.

A Mariposa County Sheriff’s deputy on his way to work, stopped to assist, along with Cal Fire, Madera County Fire and CHP. Traffic control was put in place for the time it took to clear the scene and transport the driver.

Alcohol is not reported to have been a factor in this accident.
