Single Vehicle Crash Near Bass Lake

BASS LAKE – Emergency personnel responded to reports of a single vehicle off the embankment along Road 274 near Fawn Point this evening.

Just after 6 p.m., a Dodge Caravan was westbound along the north shore of Bass Lake approaching a sharp corner when, for unknown reasons, it went off the right shoulder and down a short embankment, coming to rest on its side about 20 feet  off the road.

The gentleman in the Dodge Caravan was initially reported as perhaps being trapped inside, since the minivan had come to rest on the driver’s door. However, after getting out of the vehicle he was evaluated by Sierra Ambulance personnel and was found to have suffered no injuries.

The exact reason for the accident is unknown at this time, but it is raining at a fairly steady rate in the Bass Lake area, roads are slick, and there are patches of heavy fog along the roadways.  With temperatures forecast to drop below freezing tonight across the mountain area, the likelihood of black ice forming along roadways is very high.
