BASS LAKE – The icy roads made driving treacherous this morning all around the mountain area, and appear to have contributed to a crash near Bass Lake.
Juan Zavala, 23, of North Fork, was westbound on Road 274, just east of Cedar Vista Drive, at about 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, when he apparently lost control of his pickup and slid off the road.
Zavala told CHP that he was driving his 1994 Chevy pickup around an icy corner when he swerved to avoid another vehicle. His truck slid off the roadway and came to rest against a large pine tree.
Three CHP units responded to the scene, along with Sierra Ambulance. Zavala complained of some minor chest pain, but he was examined and was not transported for medical attention.
Cal Fire engine #4260 also responded, and assisted with traffic control while the pickup was pulled back onto the road and removed from the scene by Doc’s Towing.
