Sign of the Times: Drive-Thru Church

OAKHURST — Adapting to changing times spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic, many mountain community churches are offering creative alternatives to conventional prayer services. For Christ Church Anglican in Oakhurst, that has meant live-streaming “virtual” services on their Facebook followed by “drive-thru” communion.

Madera County eased certain social distancing restrictions last week to accommodate the faith community.

Christ Church has been closed since the pandemic began. Nevertheless, the church is offering a live streaming service of Morning Prayer on Sundays beginning at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays starting at 5 p.m. The services are accessible on the church’s Facebook page.

Fr. Gordon Kamai, the rector of Christ Church Anglican, concluded a career working as a tax attorney to answer God’s call into full-time ministry. He first began serving at Christ Church in 2002 while it was still a mission.
