OAKHURST – Sierra Tel is proud to announce the award of a $5,000 grant to Oakhurst Community College Center from the Foundation for Rural Service.
As a member of NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association – Sierra Tel was able to endorse the OCCC project to improve the Center’s distance learning opportunities.
The grant monies will be used to install distance learning equipment for high school enrichment and dual enrollment classes to link this campus to other community colleges.
Similar grants were awarded to rural communities in 11 states to help provide access to broadband-enabled technology that supports education, job creation, economic development, telemedicine and first response emergency services.
“The Foundation for Rural Service is honored to highlight and support these inspiring communities,” said Jessica Golden, FRS executive director.
“This year’s grant winners are exemplars of the innovation, orientation towards public service and dedication to hard work that can be found throughout rural America. The foundation extends heartfelt congratulations to all our applicants, whose collaboration and insight are improving the quality of life in their respective communities.”
Sierra Tel Business Development Manager Dan Rule worked with OCCC to submit the application.
“The FRS awarded the maximum grant amount to the College, and I could not be prouder!” said Rule. “This demonstrates the creative ways the College is working to offer more classes to the students. Our entire community will benefit.”
