Shut Down Continues At The Chukchansi Casino

COARSEGOLD – The Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino remains closed this morning after reports that armed gunmen stormed the lobby at about 6 p.m. last evening, and pointed their weapons at security guards.

The Sheriff’s Office was called in and evacuated the building, while CHP officers closed off Lucky Lane.

This morning the casino remains closed, though Lucky Lane has been reopened. Security guards and sheriff’s deputies are still on scene, and there is no indication if any movement has been made to rectify the situation, or when the casino may be reopened.

This is the latest chapter in the continuing dispute between rival factions of the Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians, both claiming to be the legitimate tribal government.

Sheriff John Anderson is working to facilitate a resolution to this ongoing and tense situation.

Repeated phone calls to the casino went unanswered this morning.

We will update when information is available from the Sheriff’s Office.
