Shop Local Inspires Mountain Bucks

OAKHURST – There’s a new currency in town, expected to become a valuable asset to consumers and local vendors alike.

Mountain Bucks Gift Certificates are easy-to-use and designed to keep shopping dollars in Eastern Madera County. Anyone can purchase Mountain Bucks gift certificates, available from the Oakhurst Area Chamber Office with payment in cash or by check. The certificates can be used just like cash at a variety of local businesses to purchase merchandise, products, food or service.

The Chamber of Commerce announced the start of a Mountain Bucks pilot gift certificate program as part of the Shop Local Campaign. Signs will be popping up at businesses around the neighborhood to indicate their participation in the program.

“They make great gifts, and they are perfect for any occasion, including birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, showers, graduations, retirement and more. They make perfect rewards and incentives and can be used to celebrate important milestones,” says Chamber Executive Director Darren Soukup. Mountain Bucks come in $5 denominations which “never expire.”

Mountain Bucks are also redeemable for restaurant food and service, accommodations, pet and feed supplies, movies, tires and auto repair. Additional products and services associated with the program are being updated and added frequently.

The Mountain Bucks Gift certificates are believed to benefit the local community and economy by keeping sales tax dollars in Madera County, says the Chamber, leading to better roads, schools and infrastructure for all the mountain communities.
