MADERA COUNTY — Sheriff Jay Varney is proud to announce the promotion of two Sheriff’s Commanders.

Lieutenants Tyson Pogue and Bill Ward were selected to fill the newly formed positions effective Mar. 1.

Commander Tyson Pogue will oversee the Field Operations Division, which includes Patrol, Emergency Services, and Specialized Services.

Commander Bill Ward will oversee the Investigations and Administration Division, which includes Detectives, Administrative Services, and Media Affairs.

The Commander positions were created after a re-structuring of the Sheriff’s Administration during the 2015-2016 fiscal year.

“We are excited to complete these promotions, and look forward to the contributions of both Commanders to the future of the Madera County Sheriff’s Office,” says Sheriff Jay Varney. “The salary savings from this restructuring, along with other savings, allows the Sheriff’s Office to fund an additional Deputy Sheriff position.”
