MADERA COUNTY – All the fires affecting the mountain area this summer have been a stark reminder of just how important it is to register to receive emergency alerts from the Madera County Sheriff’s Office when disaster strikes.
The Sheriff’s Office will be hosting events in Oakhurst in the next few weeks to provide residents the opportunity to register for MCAlert.
The Madera County Alert Emergency Warning System is already capable of issuing critical warnings about health or safety threats to county residents via landlines, but if you want to receive those warnings on your cell phone or in an email, you need to register those phone numbers or email addresses with MCAlert.
Four different dates are available to have all your questions answered about this free service and to register –
- Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Vons Shopping Center on Highway 49 in Oakhurst.
- Thursday, Sept. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at True Value Home Center, West Lake Drive, Oakhurst. This event will be taking place during the Farmer’s Market scheduled that same evening.
- Friday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Grocery Outlet on Junction Drive in Oakhurst.
- Saturday, Oct. 11 and Sunday Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oakhurst Community Park. During the Fall Festival, sheriff’s personnel will be on scene with a booth both days to help residents register.
Homeowners and business owners can also sign up by logging onto www.mcalert.org. If you know someone who does not have computer access, please invite them to one of these free events, or have them register by calling 559-675-7770.
