Sheriff Launches Social Media Sites

Madera County – In an effort to utilize a more transparent and expedient way to interact with the citizens of Madera County, as well as mass media, Sheriff John Anderson today announced the Madera County Sheriff’s Office is launching three of the most commonly used networking tools, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

All three sites are intended to provide a more timely method of issuing notifications, just as MC-Alert is used to reach a vast body of people with instant alerts.

Sheriff Anderson says Twitter’s main purpose (Twitter.com@MaderaSheriff ) is to better serve the public, keeping them informed with the most accurate and up to date information concerning all important and critical incidents happening in both the incorporated and unincorporated areas throughout the county of Madera.

Like Twitter, Facebook (facebook.com/MaderaSheriff) will not only serve as a tool to send news alerts with extended information, the page will also post all press releases, pictures, and when possible, video as well. Additionally, this networking site will also maintain a Most Wanted Fugitives page, with information on how to contact law enforcement with anonymous information, says the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s YouTube Channel will now allow for expanded video coverage of incidents.

A policy and planning staff within the Madera County Sheriff’s Office will be responsible for monitoring all posts and forums, and will “exercise discretionary power to delete any comment that contains abusive, vulgar, offensive, threatening or harassing language, personal attacks of any kind, or offensive terms that target specific individuals or groups.”

The Sheriff’s Office notes that they “will not permit and will immediately delete any post that includes the promotion of or opposition to any political party, person campaigning for elected office, or any ballot measure.”
