Shaver Lake Woman Arrested For DUI And Vehicular Manslaughter

SHAVER LAKE – A Shaver Lake woman has been arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter and DUI after a hit-and-run on Highway 168 on Sunday, Feb. 17.

Morgan Brown, 20, was driving her 2010 Hyundai westbound on SR168 west of Shaver Forest Road sometime after 2:30 a.m. when she allegedly struck and killed Jaysen Wright, 30, of Tollhouse, who was walking on the highway, says the CHP.After hitting Wright, the CHP says Brown continued driving about 3 miles where she failed to negotiate a turn just west of Littlefield Road, drove off the highway colliding with a reflector and several trees, and overturned down a steep rock embankment. The Hyundai had crashed into a forested area where it was not visible to passing motorists.

A person delivering newspapers at about 3 a.m. found Wright lying in the road, deceased, and called 911.

SR-168 was closed between Bretz Mill Road and Shaver Forest Road for approximately one hour during the initial investigation.

At about 7 a.m., a passing ambulance came upon Ms. Brown standing on the shoulder of the road, after she had apparently climbed up the embankment. Ambulance personnel stopped to help, and notified the CHP of the accident.

CHP Officer Jones, who was still investigating the hit-and-run, responded to the scene, where his preliminary investigation indicated that Brown had been involved in both collisions.

After noting Brown’s apparent signs of intoxication, field sobriety tests were performed, and Brown was place under arrest for DUI Causing Injury/Death, Hit and Run and Vehicular Manslaughter, and booked into the Fresno County Jail.

The accident is still under investigation.
