Lost Hunters Located By Search Teams

MADERA COUNTY – Two overdue hunters have been located by Madera County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue Team. They are reportedly in OK condition and are heading home.

Earlier today, the Sheriff’s Office mobilized a search for the pair, reportedly missing in the area of Muglers Meadow, located in the Sierra National Forest.

Muglers Meadow is located off Beasore Road near Chiquito Ridge, at altitudes of 6,000 to more than 7,000 feet, and is situated in the headwaters of Chiquito Creek. Other landmarks include Jackass Creek and Granite Creek.

The wilderness, known for its pristine views, is also some of the most rugged terrain in the Sierra National Forest.

The two missing men were a 69-year-old Oakhurst man and a 43-year-old Salinas man.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call from a family member just before midnight last night. Deputies were advised the two hunters were expected home earlier in the evening but failed to show up.

Deputies drove to the area last night, which is about an hour from Oakhurst, but were unable to locate the vehicle reportedly taken by the pair when they headed out earlier in the day. The Sheriff’s Office Search & Rescue Team mobilized a foot search team at sunrise.

Both men were located just after 1 p.m. this afternoon.
