Saturday Night Vehicle Accident Causes Small Fire

O’NEALS – At approximately 10:30 pm Saturday evening local emergency personnel from the CHP, Madera County Sheriff, Sierra Ambulance and Cal Fire responded to a vehicle accident with car fire on Rd. 200 at the Fine Gold Creek bridge, also known as the crooked bridge.

According to a witness the late model Toyota was driving erratically at an excessive speed and was unable to maneuver the sharp turn at the bridge plowing through the barrier landing in the creek bed and immediately catching fire.

Cal Fire was able to contain the fire before spreading into the surrounding vegetation.

The unidentified female driver and lone occupant was able to remove herself from the wreckage. The driver was treated at the scene by Sierra Ambulance. No report on whether the driver was arrested or transported to a hospital.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the accident.
