Wharton Wins Award

OAKHURST – Yosemite High School senior Jonathan Wharton was chosen recently as Student of the Month by Oakhurst Sierra Sunrise Rotary.

Nominations are based on a variety of criteria, including academic achievement, character, community service, extra-curricular program participation and leadership. Wharton was nominated by YHS Spanish teacher Sr. Steve Browning.

Jonathan is currently in Spanish Five, placing him in an elite group at YHS, says Browning. He adds that Jonathan always challenges himself and never takes a class for an easy grade.

“He is active in Academic Decathlon and Drama, bringing many accolades to Yosemite High with his success,” Browning says. “Jonathan is also very active in the community. He volunteers at the Library and Fresno Flats donating many hours to our town.”

For his Senior Project, Wharton is teaching Spanish to kids at the Children’s Museum. “It’s an honor to have him at our school and he is extremely deserving of this award,” Browning continues in his recommendation.
