Roadways Reopen As Firefighters Gain Upper Hand On School Fire

NORTH FORK — Roads 274 and 225 in North Fork will reopen at 9 p.m. after a 3-hour closure to allow access to equipment and firefighters battling the School Fire.

All mandatory evacuations have been lifted, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Road 230 in to the Rec Center will also reopen, but this is still an active fire, and heavy equipment will be moving in and out of the area.

The School Fire started at 5:24 p.m. on the top of the hill between Road 230 and Road 274, just north of Road 225 (see map below).

The forward progress was stopped at 12.11 acres. No structures were lost or damaged.

A power line reportedly came down in the middle of the fire perimeter, and some residents in the area have been reporting both long-term and intermittent power outages.

As of Wednesday morning, the fire was 80 percent contained.

The cause of the School Fire remains under investigation.
