Register Now For Smokey Bear Run/Walk

BASS LAKE – The 28th annual Smokey Bear Run/Walk is fast approaching and organizers are reminding those wishing to participate to register now.

This event is a highlight of the fall season at the lake and is also one of the races in the “Valley Runner of the Year” series. This year’s Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, at Recreation Point on the south shore of Bass Lake. Registration begins at 6:45 a.m., and events start at 7:40 a.m.

With the loss of a major sponsor – the Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino – it is more important than ever that runners, walkers and wheelchair participants register now, and invite others to join in the fun. Proceeds will go back to the local community.

$25 – Normal Rate – from July 1st until August 31st

$30 – Late Rate – Sept. 1st through packet pickup

$35 – Race Day Rate

$10 – Kids Entry Fee

There are all types of activities that will fit you or your family’s fitness level. There is a 2-mile walk, a 2 mile run, a 10K run (6.2 mi.), and races for kids.

The Smokey Bear Run/Walk is a fundraiser that has healthful benefits not only in the race itself, but the practice leading up to each year’s event. This year’s proceeds will benefit Cal Fire and USFS Fire Prevention Programs, Madera County Search & Rescue, Madera County Sheriff Explorer’s Post 104, and the Yosemite High School (YHS) Cross Country Teams.

Participants are asked to please come early. Road 222 will close from 7:15 – 9:40 a.m. from Recreation Point towards the Forks and Millers. If you must leave the race early (soccer season!) please park on the north end; this will allow you a means to exit prior to the road reopening.
