Reforestation Workshop Scheduled For February

PRATHER — A Reforestation Workshop for forest land owners and foresters will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Intermountain Nursery in Prather.

The workshop is being hosted by Cal Fire, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and University of California Extension.

Topics in the workshop will include:

  • Forest ecology following heavy tree mortality.
  • Reforestation basics.
  • Preparing the ground for planting.
  • Selection of nursery stock.
  • Treating competing vegetation.
  • Land owner assistance programs that are currently available.

Presenters will include:

  • Ray Laclergue – Intermountain Nursery, Owner
  • Jodi Axelson – Forest Health Extension Specialist, UC Extension
  • Stewart McMorrow – Stewardship Forester, Cal Fire
  • Dorus Van Goidsenhoven – L.A. Moran Reforestation Center, Cal Fire
  • Guy Anderson – Forestry Assistance Specialist (Southern Region), Cal Fire
  • Topher Henderson – Forestry Assistance Specialist (Southern Region), Cal Fire
  • Matt McNicol – Area 3 Forester, NRCS
