NORTH FORK – The Redinger Fire, burning along Mammoth Pool Road (Forest Road 4S81) east of North Fork, is now 100 percent contained at 170 acres.
Today, the Redinger Fire showed some activity, but no further gains in acreage. Fire crews finished securing the perimeter with handline and dozer line, using Forest Road 4S81 and natural features as as part of the containment break.
Crews are patrolling the perimeter and hitting hotspots, widening the fireline 100 yards into the burn.
There are 100 personnel assigned to incident including seven engines, four crews, one water tender and one dozer. Work will continue until the fire is declared controlled.
The Castle Fire, which started about ½ mile above the Redinger Fire, has burned 7.5 acres – a drop in acres due to more accurate mapping – and is also 100 percent contained. Crews are focused on mop-up and securing the fireline. There are still hot spots and light fire activity showing within the interior of the burn area.
At present, the fires pose no immediate threat to communities, say officials.
Mammoth Pool Road is open with no restrictions, but fire equipment will still be in the area, so motorists are urged to use caution.
Both the Redinger and Castle Fires were reported at about 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug, 27. The Redinger Fire is about 1/4 mile north of the Redinger Lake overlook, and the Castle Fire is across the road from Campers Corner about 1/2 mile to the northeast.
The cause of the fires remains under investigation.
