Recycle Your Old Paint Products

MARIPOSA — Ready to get rid of old household DIY products like paint, stains and sealers? A free paint drop-off event is open to all households and businesses on Saturday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds.

Containers must have original labels. The following products will be accepted:

  • house paint and primers (latex or oil-based)
  • stains
  • deck and concrete sealers
  • clear finishes (e.g., varnishes and shellac)

The following products will not be accepted:

  • paint thinners
  • mineral spirits
  • solvents
  • areosol paints (spray cans)
  • auto and marine paints
  • art and craft paints

For more details on what products are accepted (and not accepted), visit PaintCare Mariposa

Businesses that generate less than 220 pounds, or about 20-30 gallons, of hazardous waste per month may bring any amount of latex or oil-based paint. Businesses that generate more than 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month may bring any amount of latex paint, but oil-based paint will not be accepted. When counting how much hazardous waste you generate in a month, oil-based paint counts, because by law it is a hazardous waste, but latex and other water-based paint does not count toward the 220 pound monthly total.

This is a drive-through event. Staff will unload your vehicle for you, say event organizers, PaintCare, Inc.

Although preregistration is encouraged, its not required. To register, visit the event page for the paint drop-off event.

This paint recycling event is sponsored by PaintCare, a nonprofit created by paint manufacturers created to set up convenient places to recycle leftover paint. Drop-off sites are set up throughout the state for smaller amounts of paint all year long.
