Radio Controlled Jet Model Rally

rc-modelers-fresno-plane-tom-messerMADERA RANCHOS — There’s an uplifting event taking place on Saturday, Sept. 24 that’s free to the public and family-friendly, as the Fresno Radio Modelers host a radio controlled jet model rally at their field in the Madera Ranchos.

Modelers, both local and out of state, are flying real turbine engine powered and electric model jets for three days, and the main day for spectators is Saturday, at which time there will be a snack bar and souvenirs available for purchase. All proceeds go to support the event. While donations are appreciated, say organizers, admission is free to the viewing public.

rc-modelers-fresno-tom-messerCoarsegold resident Tom Messer will be there. He invites anyone interested in aviation to bring folding chairs, shade, sunscreen and spend the day with these RC pilots and their planes soaring in the sky.

“These airplanes can reach speeds of 200 mph and are as exciting as their full-sized counterparts to watch!”

Visit the event site at www.fresnojets.com and the club site at www.frcm.org for more information.

“The plane weighs about 35 pounds when fueled and ready to fly. It is powered by a JetCat Titan turbine engine that burns kerosene or diesel fuel. The picture was taken in Merced County in 2015 at the Crows Landing airfield, after I first test flew that model.”

Here’s a link with directions to the location. On Saturday, the event runs from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Tom suggests people arrive early in order to participate in the People’s Choice awards, and plan to stay for lunch.
