Proactive Traffic Stop By Deputy Results In Felony Arrest

COARSEGOLD – A Fresno man is behind bars after a traffic stop on Highway 41 turned up illegal items in possession of a probationer.

On Tuesday, July 10, at approximately 3:24 a.m., Madera County Sheriff’s Sergeant Tallmon observed a red sedan with a partially obstructed license plate in the area of Highway 41 and Mecca Lane in Madera County.

Sgt. Tallmon conducted a traffic stop, and identified the driver as 26-year-old Juan Cassio of Fresno.

During the course of his investigation, the sergeant learned that Cassio is on active probation in Fresno County, and is subject to search and gang terms. Based on these terms, Sgt. Tallmon detained Cassio and conducted a search of the vehicle.

During the search, Tallmon located an imitation handgun, two “billy club” type weapons, various burglary tools, and methamphetamine paraphernalia.

Cassio was arrested, transported and booked in at Madera County Department of Corrections without incident for felony possession of a leaded cane, and misdemeanor charges of possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance, and driving with a suspended license.

He remains behind bars on a $10,000 bond.
