Ponderosa Consumer Disaster Protection Measures

O’Neals, CA Sept. 10, 2020  — Ponderosa, a family owned and operated technology provider in the Sierra foothills, would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the men and women battling the devastating Creek Fire. This fire has hit particularly close to home as it is currently actively burning within our service territories, particularly within the communities of Big Creek, Huntington Lake, Shaver Lake, Auberry, and North Fork. Our thoughts are with our customers, employees and neighbors who have been evacuated, are waiting evacuation orders, or are currently seeking refuge.

We wanted to take this opportunity to remind our customers that, as a Ponderosa customer, you are afforded protections to your telephone service in the event of a disaster. This includes reduced or waived fees for a variety of services, including remote call forwarding, remote access to call forwarding, call forwarding features, and messaging services. While the impacts of the Creek Fire are being felt by all in the community, the owners and employees of Ponderosa want to assure our customers that we are doing everything we can to keep them connected during this emergency.

By design, over 98% of Ponderosa’s cable facilities are buried underground. While this does reduce the risk of damage, we still have equipment that is located above ground. Once the fire is extinguished and safe access is granted to the impacted areas, our team will begin the process of restoration.

The potential for outages in the areas impacted by the Creek Fire remains high. However, we encourage our customers to call our office to report any problems or concerns with their service. Ponderosa is committed to keeping our network operational and will work quickly to expedite repairs and restore services.
