OAKHURST – The Oakhurst Community Center was standing room only last Thursday, Apr. 17, as citizens came out to learn more about the candidates vying for the Office of Madera County Sheriff and District Attorney. The event was hosted by the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce and moderated by local attorney and past Chamber president Greg Chappel.

YOSEMITE – Everyone is invited to celebrate Earth Day in Yosemite National Park on Saturday, April 19 and Tuesday, April 22. Visitors can participate in a range of activities including a bike ride, photo walks and stewardship projects, with a full schedule of Yosemite Junior Ranger activities on Saturday.

YOSEMITE – A rockfall in the Hetch Hetchy area of Yosemite National Park has closed the trail east of Wapama Falls. At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Mar. 31, a large rockfall occurred from the cliff just east of Wapama Falls above the Hetch Hetchy reservoir. No visitors were injured.

MADERA COUNTY — Sheriff John Anderson has announced that the Madera County Sheriff’s Office will provide two drop off sites when the department hosts its third Take Back Drug event scheduled for April. Both drop-off locations will provide easy access and available parking to the public.
