Overturned 5th Wheel Causes Road Closure At Bass Lake

BASS LAKE — An accident on Road 274 this evening closed the road in both directions as about five recovery and cleanup vehicles responded to deal with the aftermath.

At about 5:45 p.m. reports came in of a 5th wheel trailer overturned in the sharp corner just west of Fawn Point.

A 73-year-old man from Riverside, Calif., was westbound on Road 274 in a 2007 Chevy Silverado, pulling a 35-foot Montana 5th wheel trailer, when the wheels of the trailer caught the soft edge of the road.

The trailer became disconnected from the pickup and overturn onto its side on the north side of the road.

According to CHP at the scene, five recovery and cleanup vehicles were needed to get the trailer righted and back onto its wheels, clean up the glass and fluids, and tow the trailer away.

The roadway has been closed for several hours as the scene is being cleared. Estimated time to reopen the roadway is about 9:40 p.m.

Both the driver and his wife escaped without injury, and County Roads responded to handle the closure.
