OAKHURST — A two-vehicle accident on Highway 41 in Oakhurst sent one driver to the hospital early this afternoon.
Shortly before 12:30 p.m., a line of cars was southbound at Hodges Hill Drive when the lead vehicle, which was not involved in the accident, slowed to make a left-hand turn into Best Deal Tire and Wheel on the east side of the road.
Several vehicles slowed behind him, however the 23-year-old driver of a 1998 Chevy Silverado apparently did not see the traffic slowing ahead of him, and slammed into the back of a 2012 Subaru Outback driven by a 38-year-old woman out of Yosemite.
Both vehicles came to rest blocking the southbound lane.
The driver of the Chevy, a resident of Coarsegold, was transported by Sierra Ambulance to St. Agnes Hospital in Fresno, complaining of neck and back pain.
The Chevy pickup suffered major front-end damage, which caused it to leak transmission fluid onto the roadway. Caltrans responded with absorbent to mitigate the mess.
The driver of the Subaru was apparently uninjured and able to drive her vehicle away from the scene.
Witnesses reported that the Chevy was driving in a reckless manner before the accident occurred. The accident is under investigation.
