Oakhurst Women Sentenced For Attempted Carjacking

MADERA- Jessica Tancredi and Channa Hammond were sentenced to state prison yesterday for their attempted felony carjacking, according to Madera County District Attorney Michael R. Keitz.

Channa HammondTancredi and Hammond, both 18, of Oakhurst, pled guilty on Jan. 17 in the Madera Superior Court, for the crimes they committed on July 6, 2012. On that day, a Japanese tourist who was visiting the McDonald’s restaurant in Oakhurst was accosted by Tancredi and Hammond.

Tancredi, while holding a revolver, ordered the tourist to get out of his car or he would be shot, while Hammond brandished a screwdriver. Nathaniel Chase, also of Oakhurst, was nearby and overheard the robbery attempt. Chase went to the aid of the tourist, disarming both suspects and delayed them until Madera Sheriff’s deputies could arrive and make arrests.

Tancredi, who was convicted of attempted carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon and admitted a special allegation for using a firearm, was sentenced to 6 years and 10 months in state prison. Hammond, who was convicted of attempted carjacking and use of a deadly weapon, received 2 years and 6 months in state prison.
