MADERA COUNTY – Two Oakhurst women spent part of this past weekend behind bars after deputies found the pair camping behind a business off Highway 49 and Meadow Vista Drive in Oakhurst.
Nichole Heck, 19, and Roxanne Castagnetto, 37, were taken into custody Friday and booked into Madera County Department of Corrections for trespassing.
Deputies responded to a complaint of squatters in the area on Friday. Tents had been set up around a campfire, which was still hot from dying embers.
Deputies say the area, which is surrounded by tall dry grass, had in recent weeks become a campground for squatters. In light of recent fires in the mountains, this was especially disturbing for both deputies and property owners.
A small baggie containing approximately .02 grams of methamphetamine was seized.
