Oakhurst Woman Airlifted After Crash On Deadwood

OAKHURST — A single-vehicle accident on Highway 41 this afternoon sent two women to the hospital.

Just before 12:30 p.m., an Oakhurst woman, age 75, was northbound on Highway 41 in a 1930 Ford Model A with one passenger – a 50-year-old woman, also from Oakhurst.

The driver told CHP that she had looked down at the radio and when she directed her attention back to the road, she had drifted into oncoming traffic.

She pulled the steering wheel back to the right, causing the Ford to drive off the east side of the roadway, plunging down the embankment about 40 feet before striking a tree.

Both women were ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

The driver suffered major injuries and head trauma, and was transported by ground ambulance to the landing zone at Vons in Oakhurst, then airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

The passenger also suffered what were described as major injuries, and was taken to CRMC by ground ambulance.

Traffic control was put in place for about an hour as the injured were prepared for transport and the scene was cleared.

The accident remains under investigation.
