Oakhurst Resident Charged With Felony DUI

MADERA – The woman who caused a wreck in which four people were injured, and that blocked Highway 41 over Deadwood on Sept. 28, has been charged with felony DUI.

Today in Madera Superior Court, charges were filed against Sherry Lynn Abraugh-Getchell, 40, of Oakhurst. Abraugh-Getchell was charged with one felony count of Vehicle Code Section 23153(a), one felony count of Vehicle Code Section 23153(b), and special allegations for causing bodily injury.

According to the California Highway Patrol, on Sept. 28, 2015, at approximately 7:05 a.m, a traffic collision occurred on State Route 41 just south of Oakhurst, involving two vehicles. Arbraugh-Getchell’s vehicle was traveling southbound when it crossed the double yellow line and collided head-on with the northbound vehicle driven by Debra Essary of Coarsegold.

Abraugh-Getchell had two passengers in her vehicle at the time of the crash, according to CHP. One suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center. The other sustained moderate injuries.

Abraugh-Getchell was transported by ground ambulance to CRMC with a broken arm and injury to her leg, after being extricated from the the Chevy Trailblazer she was driving.

“The District Attorney’s Office is committed to make the county’s streets and highways safer,” says District Attorney David Linn. “We will vigorously prosecute drunk drivers with particular emphasis on our major thoroughfares such as Highway 41, Highway 99, and Highway 145.”

The District Attorney expects an arraignment in this case to occur sometime in November at Madera Superior Court in Bass Lake.
