Oakhurst Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

OAKHURST — An Oakhurst man is behind bars following his arrest Thursday for allegedly possessing and distributing child pornography.

After the Madera County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division received a tip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children regarding internet child pornography activity in Madera County, an investigation was conducted that identified a residence in the 48000 block of Royal Oaks Dr. as a possible source of the child pornography activity.

On Thursday (March 12), MCSO detectives along with representative of the Central California Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force served a search warrant at the Oakhurst residence.

After a search of electronic devices located at the residence, detectives arrested Juan Carlos Verdejo Rojas, 48, for possession and distribution of child pornography.

Rojas was also charged with criminal enhancements related to the total number of images found during the search. He was booked into the Madera County Department of Corrections and is being held without bail.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office maintains an active relationship with the Central California Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force  and is committed to relentlessly pursuing offenders who utilize the internet to victimize children.

“Combatting this type of criminal exploitation and trafficking of children is why we have dedicated two deputies to work tirelessly with two FBI based task forces and the ICAC Task Force,” said Sheriff Jay Varney.
