OAKHURST — Among the bountiful offerings of the coming season is this: Oakhurst Community Concert Band presents their Spring Concert on Sunday, Apr. 7 at Mountain Christian Center.
Fun-packed and full of excitement, the music for this performance ranges from familiar to inspirational and includes something for everyone, say organizers.
The program starts at 3 p.m. and features a special guest appearance by the cast of Oliver! from the Golden Chain Theatre. As always, the concert is free.
Concert band member Sandy Schaefer, on flute, says the presentation will open with the exciting “Gavorkna Fanfare” by Jack Stamp.
“We will be playing two diverse pieces by a contemporary American film composer, Rossano Galante,” Sandy continues. “A Childhood Remembered and Cry of the Last Unicorn. Two marches are on the program including a Sousa favorite, Riders For The Flag, and March: Grandioso by Seitz.
“A Broadway theme takes over the second half of the program with Mary Posluch featured as vocal soloist in a beautiful arrangement of Rodgers and Hart’s Blue Moon, followed by Broadway Show-Stoppers Overture and highlights from Oliver!”
Michael Corrigan is the director of the 45-piece band. Members are all volunteer and range in age, and many of the band members mentor school students throughout the mountain communities.
The Oakhurst Community Concert Band, Inc. is a non-profit organization supported by generous donations from corporate sponsors and community service groups, as well as individual music lovers.
