NWS Issues Reg Flag Warning

SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Hanford has issued a Red Flag Warning for very low humidities over the southern Sierra Nevada, in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 15.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly.

A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

The affected area includes Yosemite and Kings Canyon National Parks, the Sierra National Forest, Sequoia National Forest, and the Tulare County mountains.

Winds are expected to be northeast 5 to 15 mph with gusts to 30 mph near the crest of the mountains.

Everyone is asked to be extremely cautious with fire. The NWS warns that if fire ignition occurs, there could be rapid spread and extreme fire behavior with threat to life and property.
