North Fork Scouts Participate In Civics Day

Submitted by Dave Smith, Scout Leader Troop 357

NORTH FORK – February is the anniversary month of the Boy Scouts of America, and each year the BSA celebrates the anniversary of the founding of the Scouting movement.

This year, six Scouts from North Fork Troop 357 participated in the 89th annual Civics Day program held in Madera on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

Civics Day is an afternoon where Scouts are paired with city and county officials and given the opportunity to learn about their hosts’ jobs. Twenty seven officials participated in the event, and each troop was allocated a number of slots depending upon the size of the unit.

The afternoon began with lunch, after which the Scouts accompanied their hosts to learn about these civil servants’ jobs. Each North Fork Scout accompanied a different official, and met with the Madera County Board of Supervisors, city engineers, city council, and the Corrections Department.

North Fork Scouts participating were: Jeremiah Stott, Hunter Ahrens, Kai Hansen, Isaiah Gibson, Johnny Alsup and Nick Roland.
