FRIANT — A 25-year-old Madera County man was arrested on felony hit-and-run charges following a fatal traffic accident that happened Saturday afternoon on Friant Road in Fresno County.

“At approximately 4:05 p.m. Saturday, a vehicle driven by an adult male was traveling northbound on Friant Road south of Old Friant Road (near Willow Avenue) when, for an unknown reason, the driver lost control of the vehicle,” stated an initial report from CHP.

The vehicle crossed the southbound lanes, leaving the roadway and rolled over.

The driver was identified on Sunday as 25-year-old Jesus Gonzalez of Fresno. Gonzalez was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, resulting in fatal injuries.

According to CHP, there also were two juveniles and one adult passenger in the vehicle and all were transported to Community Regional Medical Center with “currently unknown injuries.”

“Following the collision and emergency personnel arriving on scene, another adult driver responded back to the scene with his passenger and indicated he was involved in this collision,” the CHP report stated. “This driver is an unlicensed adult and is cooperating with the investigation.”

Authorities later identified the unlicensed driver as Rosalio Galindo Jr. of North Fork.

Galindo was subsequently arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges that include felony hit-and-run.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the incident but has not been confirmed.

CHP and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said late Saturday night that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
