New Principal Named at Rivergold Elementary School

New Rivergold Principal Virginia “Gini” Pierce-Cummings

COARSEGOLD — Yosemite Unified School District has hired Virginia (Gini) Pierce-Cummings to be the new principal of Rivergold Elementary School.

The announcement was made by YUSD Superintendent Glen Billington Tuesday afternoon.

Pierce-Cummings, who will begin her new position in July, replaces longtime Rivergold Principal Bob Rose, who is retiring.

“Gini comes to us from Madera Unified School District where she currently serves as Vice-Principal for Curriculum and Instruction at Madera High School,” Billington said.

“She has teaching experience in elementary grades, middle school and high school,” Billington added. “Gini also served as an academic coach where she worked with teachers on curriculum and instruction.”

Pierce-Cummings holds a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and an Administrative Services Credential from Fresno State.

“While Gini just joined the Yosemite Unified School District as a principal, she is no stranger to Rivergold,” Billington said. “She lives with her husband George in Coarsegold and has five children all who attended and graduated from Rivergold. So, Gini has been a Hawk for many years.”

Pierce-Cummings said the new job “feels like a homecoming” and she is “over the moon excited to take on this new adventure. I have big shoes to fill taking over for Bob Rose,” she added. “I plan to learn and grow with the staff.”

In his announcement, Billington said the district’s new principal “brings a vast background in curriculum and instruction, a history of collaborative leadership, and a love for connecting with students.”

“Yosemite Unified and the Rivergold community are fortunate to have Gini join our team,” Billington added. “Please join us in welcoming her to the Yosemite Unified family.”
