New Community Service Officer Joins Madera Sheriff’s Office

MADERA COUNTY — The Madera County Sheriff’s Office will soon be welcoming a new Community Service Officer (CSO) to the team.

Kayla Serrato, 30, will step into her new assignment on Dec. 1, joining CSO Joann Evans who came on board in February 2002 and serves mainly Eastern Madera County.

Serrato was born and raised in Merced, Calif., and is a recent graduate of California State University Stanislaus in Turlock where she earned a B.A. in Criminal Justice with a concentration on law enforcement.

The new CSO also served as an intern working for the Crime Prevention Officer at the Turlock Police Department for over a year. That valuable experience will serve her well as many of the programs in which she participated are also offered in Madera County.

“I will be acting as liaison between the community and the Sheriff’s Office, working and operating different crime prevention activities, after-school programs and various other community outreach programs,” says Serrato who is anxious to take on her new duties.

The job of CSO also involves working the the Sheriff’s volunteer programs, researching and preparing educational materials to promote crime prevention practices, and representing the Sheriff’s Office to many of the community’s agencies and organizations.
