New Coaches And Strong Focus For Boys Soccer

By Colby Jobinger —

O’NEALS — Minarets Boys Soccer has had a big change this season since both teams — Varsity and Junior Varsity — got new head coaches.

Previous Varsity Assistant Coach Juan Ibarra stepped up as the Head Coach for Varsity while his brother, Julio Ibarra, has taken the assistant coach spot. The Junior Varsity team will be led by Anthony Castaneda, who has been helped out both JV and Varsity over the past few years.

I recently interviewed Varsity coach Juan and he had a positive outlook on this year’s season and the future of the program. His main goal for this season is to have a good turn out of players in all aspects on and off the field.

“I believe that, in order to have a winning season, we need respect and discipline on and off the field,” says the coach. “I would really like to make it to playoffs and obviously everyone’s end goal is the championship.”

Looking toward the future, he also wants the program to continue to grow by having two full teams and eventually adding a club team to compete outside of the school season.

Boys Varsity won their most recent game against Laton — you can check the stats here on MaxPreps.

The Minarets varsity soccer team has an away non-conference game @ Sierra in Tollhouse on Wednesday, Nov. 28.
