NORTH FORK – The Sierra National Forest in happy to welcome Robbin Ekman as Acting District Ranger for the Bass Lake Ranger District, a position previously held by District Ranger Dave Martin, who retired in January.
Ms. Ekman, a resident of Auberry, will be in this temporary role through mid-April. The position is expected to be filled permanently in this time frame or soon thereafter.
Robbin has worked for the Sierra National Forest for 35 years and has held the Recreation Officer position for the High Sierra Ranger District since 2001. In a recent interview, she stated that she pursued this assignment because she is “ready for a challenge” and is excited to share her experience and corporate knowledge of the Sierra National Forest in her new role.
Robbin brings many years of experience managing a complex recreation program and is also a Liaison Officer for the California Interagency Incident Management Team, known as a Type 1 Team. This interagency team is comprised of Federal, State, and local agency team members established for the management of the Nation’s largest and most complex wild land fire incidents.
Bringing a new perspective to the District is another benefit and Robbin has enjoyed getting to know the employees as well as meeting new folks in the community. She also appreciates the opportunity to work with and collaborate with new partners.
Of the many on-going projects on the District, the French Fire Recovery and Restoration Project is currently a focus for District staff. Drought concerns are also weighing heavily and Robbin lamented that although she “can’t make it rain,” she is keeping the public’s concerns in mind while preparing her staff for a busy season.
