Music On The Green Features Jazz And Country

Written by Ronnie Sweeting —

MARIPOSA — Music on the Green, the free summer concert series brought to you by The Mariposa County Arts Council and its many fine sponsors, presents live in concert The Blue Skies Trio on Friday, July 8, and The Danny Millsap Band on Saturday, July 9.

Inspired by the classic piano-bass-drum trios and small jazz combos of the 40s to the present day, the seasoned world-class musicians in The Blue Skies Trio are skilled at playing both smooth, and high energy jazz music — a true American art form.

Returning this year – after an impressive debut with the trio last season – is guest vocalist, Jacquie McCourt, 19, who possesses a remarkably mature vocal range beyond her years.

Honky tonk veterans, The Danny Millsap Band, make their Music on the Green debut on Saturday, playing and singing real country western music (another true American art form), in the old school style of the genre.

As opposed to the modern pop heard on today’s country radio format, Millsap and his band’s rootsy, good time rhythm and down-home outlaw singing might just cause you to want to dance. That’s allowed at the Art Park, so come on out and enjoy.

All performances begin at 7 p.m. at the Mariposa County Art Park, located on Highway 140, between 4th and 5th Streets, in historic downtown Mariposa. You can find free parking on 5th Street along the Creek Walkway to the Park, also providing handicapped access.

The shows are free to the public – tips for the performers will be solicited, encouraged, and appreciated.

The Mariposa Arts Council – including Music on the Green – is funded in part by Mariposa County, the California Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts. The MARIPOSA COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL, INC. is an incorporated not-for- profit organization, created to promote and support all forms of the cultural arts, for all ages, throughout Mariposa County.
