Mudslide Closes El Portal Road To Yosemite

YOSEMITE – State Route 140 at El Portal is closed at the Yosemite National Park boundary in Mariposa County due to a mudslide.

The El Portal entrance to the Park  is shut down today and meanwhile, alternate routes are necessary to gain entry to the Park.

The road closed overnight on Tuesday, July 21, due to heavy debris flows following severe weather over the past several days. The effects of the mudslide are still being evaluated at this time. The CHP estimates the road will be closed for at least two days.

The area has been under flood watch since heavy rains brought in by tropical storm Dolores pummeled Yosemite Valley and surrounding areas.

Entrance to Yosemite is still possible via Big Oak Flat on the west, and through the south gate on Highway 41 north of Oakhurst.

Updates may be available by calling (209) 372-0200, extension #1.
