Motorcyclist Dies After Hitting A Dog On Road 222

NORTH FORK – A motorcyclist has died after being in an accident involving a dog on Road 222 near North Fork yesterday afternoon.

At 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, Arthur Johnston, 76, of Tollhouse, was southbound on Road 222 about 1/2-mile south of Road 200 on a Yamaha Star motorcycle.

According to a witness who was cycling in the area, a dog ran out directly into the path of the motorcycle, and Johnston was ejected from the bike as it struck the dog.

He was taken by ground ambulance to the landing zone at the North Fork School and airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

The witness told CHP that Johnston was not driving in an unsafe manner and estimated his speed at about 40 mph.

The dog also died as a result of the crash.
